DIY Latch board - Toddlers

Okay I know it is a little late to be writing a post about gift ideas, but this IS a great present idea for toddlers & older babies, & for those of you who are still struggling for gift solutions, this may just help. A latch board is a great educational activity, designed to develop fine motor & memory skills. For little toddlers that love opening & closing cupboards (usually the ones they are not supposed to be in), undoing locks or taking things apart, this activity board may just be a blessing! I had planned to make this a DIY post (after I had seen the price on the latch board in a local toy shop that is! Although they seem to be significantly cheaper on line to purchase) but this last week has gotten away from me & I didn't find time to get the power tools out & create this. Turns out it wasn't too much of a problem, when I stumbled across wonderful DIY versions from TamaraEsq & Jengod.

or how about creating a  DIY Toddler busy board like gmglimmerglass

I also found an article about how these 'latch boards' help adults with dementia, if you are interested in a little light reading.

So if, unlike me, you have a little bit of time up your sleeve to create an activity board for your busy toddler, you may be pleasantly surprised in how a few simple latches drilled on a board, can occupy your little one.

Enjoy x
